Rumeli Hisari |
Rumeli Hisari
The Rumeli Hisari fortress is built on the European side, where the Bosporus is the narrowest. It was built in 3 months in 1456 by order of Sultan Mehmet II to control the passage towards Constantinople. Each vizier responsible for constructing a tower had to respect this deadline if he wanted to keep his head. Rumeli Hisari faces the fortress of Anatolia (1393). Since the paths round, behind the slots, above the machicoulis, we have a magnificent view to the bosphore, ideal point of vue to shoot photos of the ships in transit. Near from the fortress, there is a lively district where it is pleasant to walk on. You can also take a drink at the terrace of one of the cafes that have a nice view towards the Strait. |

Kilyos |
Kilyos
Kilyos is the extreme northern Istanbul suburb, at 35Km from Eminonü. Kilyos faces the deep chilly waters of the Black Sea. To reach the center of the old Istanbul, it's easy to take a bus from Kilyos to Sariyer, then an other bus to Besiktas or a fast ferry to Besiktas or Eminonü. I ended up to the Kylios Kale Hotel with a splendid view on the Black Sea from my room. |
